The secret is that there is no secret: Workshop and participation in the curatorial project

Deadline: Monday, Nov 11, 2024, 11:00am

The secret is that there is no secret refers to the relationship between power, politics, and curatorial action. It seeks to find ways to make visible what normally remains hidden.

The aim of this call is to form a group of students who are interested in participating in the curatorial project The secret is that there is no secret in various formats. Various courses, workshops, 1:1 mentoring, and excursions are planned over the course of two years. Ultimately, the concepts developed will lead to public presentations, performances, and exhibitions with works by the participating students.

The topics to be worked on include:

  • Critical examination of the perception of curating inherited from the 1990s.
  • Discovering paradoxes between the inside and outside of an art institution, how they manifest themselves in practice, and what should be done about them.
  • Addressing the blind spot of Vienna's historical border condition.
  • Focusing on Vienna's institutions and their interrelations with artistic practices from Central, Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.
  • Exploring relatively unknown levels of exhibition practice and analyzing their political implications
