The Academy of Fine Arts offers students the opportunity to participate in a Blended Intensive Program (BIP) at the Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin (HEAR) in Strasbourg:

Meeting of the Art Schools of Rivers

The rivers and streams workshop
30 March - 3 April 2026

Strasbourg, France

Over the course of a week, some twenty art and design students from all over Europe will meet up, work together and pool their attachments to their rivers.

They will share documentation on past projects and draw attention to their particular situations, depending on the nature of their river. In the end, they will participate in an  exhibition that will be part of the « Rhine, Rivers and Streams Festival ».

HEAR wishes to establish in Strasbourg the gathering and sharing of works and practices that are produced locally, but also elsewhere in Europe. The aim of this inventory of the ways in which rivers and their art schools come together is to create a network of river art schools.

Around thirty establishments located near rivers are already institutional partners of HEAR. What remains to be done is to structure this network, which would become self-aware and contribute to a different vision of Europe, one that is closer to the biosphere, more pacifist and more poetic.

Broadly speaking, it is a mater of watershed-scaled workshop which propose to reflect on following issues :

  • Geopolitical and socio-economic tensions : when river is shared between neighbor countries (foes and allies having different agendas) ;
  • Earth beings rights : when mountains and rivers are recognized as legal personalities ;
  • Peoples of rivers : when habits and rituals help us to reconnecte with our immediate non-digital environnement and other-than-human inhabitants.
