Cathrin Pichler Prize 2026

Honouring the thinker, curator, author, and teacher Cathrin Pichler, this prize will be awarded this year for the eighth time to a student or alumni_alumnae of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, who - in the sense of Cathrin Pichler - deals with specific artistic methods and practices as contribution and intervention to a scientific discourse. The prize is awarded for an existing artistic-scientific work/project.
Prize
The prize is endowed with € 2,500.- sponsored by the City of Vienna
The certificate will be awarded in the frame of the graduation ceremony on 3 July 2026.
After the submission deadline, an expert jury of teachers from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and external artists or curators will select the prize winner.

9 March - 15 April 2026 | 11:00 am
Submission
Enrolled students of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and graduates who have completed their studies at the academy in the summer semester 2021* or later can submit their projects. The prize is awarded to an artistic-scientific project or work. Qualification works such as diploma, master theses, or dissertation projects are excluded.
Following documents must be submitted as PDF files with max. 5 MB and max. 30 pages:
- Project: documentation of the submitted project
- Portfolio: documentation of artistic-scientific work
- CV
An application is only possible via https://calls.akbild.ac.at/. To use our submission system https://calls.akbild.ac.at/ you have to register once (if you still need access) - please use your @student.akbild.ac.at address to identify yourself as a student. Login is impossible with the AkademieOnline password, as this system is separate.
Only applications with complete information and documents that conform to the criteria listed above can be considered. Please keep in mind that the deadlines must be strictly adhered to; applications that are submitted too late or incomplete cannot be considered at all.

* Exception due to social reasons: Graduates who have completed their studies before summer semester 2018 may submit with proof of, e.g. years spent for childcare, disease or care for dependents etc.
