Content of the call for proposals

The Vice Rectorate for Art | Teaching of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is now accepting proposals for an exhibition project in the Exhibit Gallery on Schillerplatz.
Duration of the exhibition from November 2025 for approx. 3 months.
Opening hours Tuesday to Sunday 10 am - 6 pm, closed on Mondays and public holidays
Special closing time from 21.12.2025-6.1.2026

The call is aimed at teaching staff within the Academy as well as graduates and external curators. Knowledge of exhibition practice and curatorial experience are required, as is a connection between the submitted project and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. For example, exhibitions that deal with the general values and goals of the Academy (see mission statement), that have links to the teaching taking place at the Academy or that position students or graduates of the Academy with their work in a contemporary art context are welcome. Proposals for cooperation projects between the various institutes of the Academy are also accepted. Submissions for solo exhibitions will not be accepted.

Exhibition space

The Exhibit Gallery in the Academy building on Schillerplatz is located on the 1st floor and has 219 m² of exhibition space (see appendix for room plan and photos). Compliance with the fire protection regulations, the requirements of the exhibit insurance and the structural conditions of the historical rooms, e.g. it is not possible to suspend heavy objects from the ceiling, must be observed.

General conditions for the realization of projects

Advice, planning, organization and public relations for the exhibitions are provided by the Contemporary Exhibitions Office and the Public Relations Office of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. The offer includes in particular

  • conceptual support in the realization of the exhibition,
  • the administration of the entire project budget, the handling of loans, the operation of the exhibition, the planning of exhibition aids and displays as well as the installation and dismantling within the framework of the structural and safety-related conditions,
  • the production of printed materials (invitation, poster, booklet) in the Academy's CI

Budget

The basic budget is to be understood as a service package of the exhibition space, in which the technical and organizational support of projects is recorded. This covers the fixed components of exhibition production such as insurance, exhibition operations (supervision etc.) and public relations work including printed materials. The budget provided for this purpose is earmarked and cannot be reallocated.

The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna will provide a maximum operational project budget of EUR 10,000 (gross = net) for the exhibition: e.g. for the production of new works, exhibition architecture and display, fees, travel allowance;
plus a maximum of 1,000 euros (gross = net) earmarked for the supporting program during the exhibition.
