In order to register, the following information is required:

• Information about the doctoral student: Surname, first name, Academy student email address, date of enrollment
• Information about the dissertation project: (working) title of the dissertation project, proposed supervisor(s), abstract, keywords

The following documents must be uploaded as PDF:

• Current Record of Studies (Studienblatt) (Download from AcademyOnline)
• Exposé (project proposal)

Please note that you can only register using your Academy student email address.

• You will receive an email confirmation of your registration.
• The Center for Doctoral Studies will contact you with information about the presentation date, including the exact time of your presentation.

The presentation

• Each presentation is allocated 10 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion.
• The presentation should be based on the submitted dissertation proposal (exposé) and introduce your dissertation project. The academic context, research gap, central research question, methodology, and objectives and/or expected outcomes of the project should be presented clearly and coherently.
• In addition, the presentation should include:
  1. a brief introduction of yourself and your academic background;
  2. a brief explanation of why your proposed supervisor is particularly well suited to supervise your specific dissertation project. The focus should be on the academic fit with your specific research question, rather than on a general introduction or endorsement of the supervisor.
• You may use a PowerPoint or PDF presentation for visual support.
• Following the presentation, the proposed supervisor will have the opportunity to ask the first question.
• The Academic Advisory Board—consisting of three supervisors in the Doctor of Philosophy program (excluding the proposed supervisor of the dissertation project being presented)—will then ask questions, discuss the project, and provide recommendations regarding the completion of the Dissertation Agreement.
• The schedule will be strictly followed. Please make sure to arrive well in advance and rehearse your presentation beforehand, particularly to ensure that it stays within the allotted time.

After the presentation

• You and your designated supervisor will receive an email from the Center for Doctoral Studies approximately a few weeks after the presentation with the feedback form.
• The feedback form completed by the Academic Advisory Board includes:
  1. Particularly compelling/promising aspects
  2. Aspects that should be further developed or more clearly elaborated in the Exposé
  3. Recommendations regarding a potential Dissertation Agreement (with or without formal conditions)
  4. Additional comments (e.g. notes on potential research ethics considerations)
• The Registrar's Office will be notified that the presentation has taken place. From this point onward, you may submit your Dissertation Agreement.
• Take the feedback into account when preparing your Dissertation Agreement. Together with your supervisor, discuss the feedback form and incorporate any necessary changes into your dissertation proposal (exposé). Complete the Dissertation Agreement form together with your supervisor.
• After submission of the Dissertation Agreement, the Registrar's Office will first conduct a formal review of the document. The Vice Rector for Art and Teaching will make the decision on its approval. You and your supervisor will be notified of the outcome.
