Call for Applications Art Information Attendant for the Exhibit Spaces of the Academy from October 2024

The Contemporary Exhibitions Office is looking for three student employees for the team of Art Information Attendants. This call is addressed to all students of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna who are interested to work in minor employment from October 2024 on with the visitor service in the Academy’s exhibition spaces – especially at Exhibit Gallery and Exhibit Studio at Schillerplatz. Applicants should have a great affinity with contemporary art and, if required, take pleasure in communicating the contents of the exhibitions to visitors. The Art Information Attendants are also responsible for guarding the exhibitions.

Responsibilities

  • providing visitors of exhibitions with help and information and looking after them;
  • offering visitors explanations on the exhibitions’ concepts and presented artworks after having been adequately briefed by the curators;
  • independently engaging in the exhibitions’ contents;
  • Turning the media equipment on and off, guarding the exhibited artworks;
  • occasionally assisting in the operation of an event
  • at least 2-3 duties per week, working hours: Tue–Fri 10–14 h or 14–18 h, Sat 14–18 h, no service in July and August;

Requirements

  • very good standard of written and verbal communication in German and English; knowledge of other languages is advantageous;
  • high social competence and communication skills (no fear of addressing groups);
  • Gender and discrimination critical competence;
  • Proof of enrolment in the current semester of study prior to the start of the contract
  • Proof of payment of the ÖH fee for the current semester before signing the contract
  • The studies may not be completed during the period of employment
  • A previous employment as a student employee at the Academy must have taken place at least 6 months beforehand
  • It is not possible to hold an additional position as a student employee at the Academy at the same time

Requested qualifications

  • experience in art education or museum guard work is advantageous

Payment is made through the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Students will receive a contract as a student employee with a monthly gross salary of EUR 513,30 plus special payments for 7,9 hours per week from October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025.

Working hours can be arranged in consultation with the Head of the Contemporary Exhibitions Department. Vacation and compensatory time are to be consumed after consultation.
