Deadline: Monday, Apr 24, 2023, 11:00am

Open Call
Exhibit Gallery: Mentoring Program Exhibition
September 8 – October 22, 2023, Opening September 7, 2023

Application deadline: Monday, April 24, 2023, 11 a.m.

Content of the call

Since 2017, as a support platform for young artists at the Academy, the Mentoring Program has offered graduates the opportunity to gain diverse insights into the art industry and practical knowledge for developing a professional artistic career through collaboration with a mentor. Since exhibition presence is one of the critical criteria for establishing oneself in the art field, the mentoring program will be complemented by a new exhibition series at Exhibit Gallery starting in the fall of 2023. This will enable some graduates participating in the mentoring program to present their artistic works to a broad public. In addition, central questions that arise in the transition from studies to independent artistic practice as well as making the diverse structures of the Viennese art scene transparent, will form the basis of a discursive program that will ideally be organized in cooperation with art fairs and festivals taking place at the same time as the exhibition.

Works of art sought

The call is addressed to the mentees participating in the mentoring program in the last three program years (2020/21-2022/23). They have the opportunity to apply with an artistic work/project for the exhibition - this can have been created during the time of participation in the mentoring program, but does not have to be. Preference will be given to applications that demonstrate a reference to the Exhibit Gallery's annual theme of 2023, Recasted Relations.

Room

The Exhibit Galerie in the Akademie building on Schillerplatz is located opposite the Gemäldegalerie and has around 200 square meters of exhibition space (see room plan in the appendix).

Implementation and budget

The Department for Contemporary Exhibitions and the Public Relations Office of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna carry out the consultation, planning, organization, and public relations for the exhibition. Each participating artist will receive a fee of 600 Euros. No production budget is available for producing new works, so it is explicitly requested to apply with existing works.
