Publication Series 2022

Deadline: Thursday, Jun 10, 2021, 11:00am

The Rectorate is now opening the call for submissions for new volumes of the publication series of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. The call is aimed at employees (including project staff) of the Academy.

A new orientation of the publication series is currently being worked on. So far, 25 volumes have been published, volume 26 is currently in production. The new volumes of the series are scheduled to appear from autumn 2022.

For this purpose, a publication advisory board was setup with representatives from the institutes and the head of the library. Together with the Rectorate, the advisory board will develop the new orientation of the series and select the publications that will be realised. Persons from the advisory board who wish to submit their own work will resign from the advisory board for this academic year and be replaced. In the future, the advisory board will also be supplemented by one or two external members (the selection is ongoing). The advisory board members are currently: Johan Hartle, Carolin Bohlmann, Sabeth Buchmann, Andreas Ferus, Martin Guttmann, Elke Krasny, Constanze Ruhm, Angelika Schnell, Christian Schwarzwald and Ruth Sonderegger.

From 2022, the publication series will have two forms: on the one hand, text-based paperbacks (with a predefined layout) that can be published promptly, and on the other hand, publications with more freedom of design, such as artists' books. The text-based paperbacks will continue to be peer reviewed. Two to four publications are expected to appear annually.

The selected publication projects will be financed to the extent of editing, printing and layout costs. The Academy will also organise the peer review process (including fees for reviewers). Author fees, translations or image rights will not be paid.

This call is addressed to staff members (including project staff members) of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna; a relation of the submitted project to the Academy is required. Both anthologies and monographs can be submitted. The language of the publication series should remain primarily English; however, the submission of German-language publications is also possible.

Please submit the following documents in one PDF-file:
- proposal for the publication project including a list of authors for anthologies (max. 5,000 characters).
- time schedule
- cost statement
Format: one PDF, length: max. 30 pages, size: max. 5 MB
