New partnership: Universidad Gastón Dachary, Posadas, Argentina

Deadline: Sunday, Jun 9, 2024, 11:00pm

Our new partner university, the Universidad Gastón Dachary in Posadas, Argentina, offers a student from the Institute of Fine Arts and from the Master in Critical Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna the opportunity to study tuition-free in the winter semester of 2024-25. Additionally, the student will receive a living and working studio (costing 400€/month) as well as an Erasmus+ scholarship of 700€/month plus a travel allowance of 1500€. Posadas, the capital of the province of Misiones, is located on the Paraná River in the tri-border area of Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. This region is rich in Guarani population mythologies and offers a unique opportunity to gather experiences about globalization and post-colonialism. The historical and current circumstances as well as the richness of the place are reflected in three focal points: colonialism, environment, and feminism.

In the colonialism area, students can learn about the colonial history of Misiones, from Encomienda forced labor to the exploitation of the Yerba Mate plant. They have the opportunity to collaborate with initiatives and committed individuals and learn more about the history, myths, and resistance. They can also gain insights into the indigenous history and culture of the Guarani communities.

In the environmental area, Misiones offers the largest forest remnants of the original jungle and is part of the Guarani Aquifer, a significant freshwater reservoir. Students can collaborate with activists against environmental destruction and experience the direct impacts of climate change. Upon their return, they can act as ambassadors for environmental issues in Europe.

In the field of feminism, students can collaborate with activists of the Ni Una Menos movement and analyze gender-specific violence in the region. They have the opportunity to participate in feminist art practices and support the feminist movement in Misiones.

The Artist Residency "Mas alla El Dorado" offers exchange students a unique opportunity to live and work in a dedicated and hospitable environment. It is a project of the Rose Staudt Foundation, whose mission is to promote critical, democratic initiatives developed in the field of art and culture as essential and stimulating components of societal development. The residency provides spaces for learning, exchange, and project development and is supervised by the artist Sonia Abian (www.abiansonia.wordpress.com), who is internationally known for her eco-feminist works.
