UNIQA Art Prize
Deadline: Tuesday, May 14, 2024, 11:00am
Aim
The competition aims to award the UNIQA Art Prize 2024 to an Academy of Fine Arts Vienna graduate of the Fine Arts study program. The prize includes an exhibition at the UNIQA Tower and an accompanying publication.
The spatial conditions of the foyer in the UNIQA Tower in 1020 Vienna allow for the realization of artistic works, primarily in sculpture, video or digital art, and performance.
A five-member jury* will select the most outstanding oeuvre presented in the portfolio from the submissions and recommend the most convincing design concept for implementation.
* Jury composition: Vice Rector Ingeborg Erhart and Professor Nora Schultz for the Academy, Board Member René Knapp, and Theresa Hochhauser from Kunstversicherung for UNIQA, and Thomas D. Trummer, Director of Kunsthaus Bregenz as external juror
Target Audience
Eligible participants are alumni of the Fine Arts study program at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, whose graduation dates are at most five years (the deadline is the announcement date: March 19th, 2024).
Implementation Period and Completion
The award ceremony is associated with an exhibition in the foyer of the UNIQA Tower, scheduled to open in mid-February 2025, as well as an accompanying publication. The Office for Contemporary Exhibition of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna will curate and technically produce the exhibition. It should be noted that work on further developing the submitted basic concept and realizing the exhibition will begin in June 2024.

The UNIQA Art Prize includes the award ceremony, an exhibition, and a publication and is endowed with a sum of 15,000 euros. Additionally, a production budget is available for the exhibition in the foyer of the UNIQA Tower. The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna will design the accompanying publication with UNIQA.

Information about the UNIQA Tower
The UNIQA Tower is an office building of UNIQA Insurance Group AG in 1020 Vienna. The tower is 75 meters high and has 21 above-ground and five underground floors. The floor plan is shaped like a stylized Q, corresponding to UNIQA's company logo.
The foyer is designed as an inclusive public space, so it experiences high visitor traffic. Therefore, when planning artistic work(s), the following criteria must be considered:
- Screens in the entrance area and at the café: Format 1920x1080 px jpg or mp4
- Adhesive application would be possible, provided it can be removed without residue and does not incur additional cleaning costs.
- Sound installations can only be played outside opening hours.
- Use of shading in the entrance area is not desirable, as it may cause disruptions to traffic and neighboring individuals due to light.
- Alternatively, there is an option to use the glass walls next to the Service Center – the technical requirements are also available here.
- Consideration of visitor traffic routes
- Floors/walls must not be drilled into.
